Tortoises can live for a very long time approximately over 50 years. Their lifespan alone makes them a worthy pet. However, it also means that an owner must be prepared to provide a lifetime of care for the tortoise. There are small tortoises, large tortoises, and in-between-size tortoises. It is very important to know how large your desired tortoise can grow in time.

A tortoise pet will not want to cuddle. In fact, it may not want to have anything to do with you at all. In the wild, tortoises are solitary animals. Be especially careful about getting more than one tortoise. For example, two males may fight each other.

Keeping a tortoise indoors can be done in many ways, but the first thing to be considered should be the enclosure itself. If you plan to keep your tortoise indoors, you can use a tortoise vivarium. The vivarium must be well-equipped in order to keep your tortoise happy and stress-free. You can purchase a ready-made tortoise vivarium or construct your own.

When deciding to get a tortoise as a pet, it is very important to recognize the various traits of the desired specie and even the gender. In most tortoise species, the female tends to be larger than the male. Some believe that males grow quicker, while the female grows slower but larger.

Most land based tortoises are herbivores feeding on grazing grasses, weeds, leafy greens, flowers, and some fruits. Pet tortoises typically require a diet based on wild grasses, weeds and certain flowers. As different tortoise species vary greatly in their nutritional requirements it is essential to thoroughly research the dietary needs of your individual tortoise.

Tortoises are land-dwelling creatures that can easily drown if placed in too much water. Turtles, on the other hand, eat meat and live both on land and in the water.

A tortoise makes a good pet. They may not be as easy to keep as other animals because some can really grow in size but a tortoise can surely be a worthy pet at home.

Corn snakes (Pantherophis guttatus) are enjoyed around the world by numerous peoples of all ages. Once you are introduced to your first corn snake, any misconceptions and fears about snakes will vanish. Corn snakes make wonderful pets. By their very nature, they are calm and easy to handle.

Where to buy corn snake is a common problem for corn snake enthusiasts. Some breeders and pet shops offer a large selection of the most popular corn snake varieties. But you have to be sure that you go to a trusted and reputable seller. You have to be sure that the snake that you are buying is healthy and necessary materials must come along with the purchase.

Housing is very crucial for corn snakes. Most adult corn snakes will live comfortably in a 20-gallon tank provided that you let them out for exercise. Bigger is always better in this case though and a 30-gallon or larger would be very nice. The tank must have a locking screen top. This is very important. Most pet stores sell clips that lock the top down securely. Buying 4 clips will ensure that you won’t be doing any “snake hunting” around the house.

One of the basics of proper chameleon husbandry is preparing and maintaining a captive environment where your chameleon can live happily. Having a well suited enclosure is a top priority.

Chameleons in particular are very sensitive creatures. They are sometimes considered delicate or even impossible to sustain for a long period of time.

The basic rule in construction chameleon cages is design the cage in a way that it replicates the chameleon’s natural habitat.
The first step in housing a chameleon is to obtain the proper cage. In most cases, screened cages with five sides being screen, are the preferred method of housing chameleons. Glass aquariums or fish tanks are not advised as they do not provide enough ventilation. The size of the cage is also important.

By providing a larger cage for your chameleon, you are encouraging them to be more active, thus leading to a happier chameleon. Add live plants or plastic plants and other furnishings to the cage.
Once you have decided on a cage, try and place it in a low traffic area of your house, free from constant human presence and out of the way of other pets like cats and dogs. Also, be sure that this place is free of extreme temperature changes like drafts and opening doors in the wintertime.

Deciding on where to buy a tortoise can be very confusing and frustrating. Don’t be fooled into buying a tortoise from a company just because their very cheap pricing. If you plan to buy a tortoise, it is important to purchase only from reputable breeders or a trusted pet shop. The seller must guarantee that the animal is totally free from any virus or illnesses.
But before finally deciding to buy a tortoise, consider first the needs of this fascinating animal.

Their dietary needs are unlike others and different species have different diets. Tortoise pets eat large amounts of food and you should pay close attention to the calcium and phosphorous balance in their diets.

A tortoise is also sensitive to temperature change. It is usually a good idea to bring the tortoise indoors at night. When the weather is cold, your tortoise should be kept inside entirely. This could be a problem if the tortoise is big. Some species even hibernate during winter and this can be stressful for the animal as well as the owners.
If you are thinking of getting a tortoise as your pet at home, not only should you be smart in where you are buying from. More importantly, you must be well-prepared to provide the best care for a tortoise.

Turtles are wonderful animals to keep as pets. Though they aren’t cuddly and not as active as other pets, they are still great pets. If you are thinking about getting a turtle for a pet, it’s important to get all of the facts before you’re in over your head.

When buying turtles, you have to be aware of what specie of turtle you want to keep. There are different types of turtles with different needs and characteristics. Select the one that suits your preference and the one which you can provide the best care.

Once you’ve decided the turtle you want to get, prepare for all the turtle needs such as housing, food, maintenance, and all aspects of pet care. Aquatic turtles require a tank or aquarium. If possible, buy a large one so that your turtle can grow. In terms of feeding, some turtles are carnivores, while others are herbivores. Most of the time, it’s the land turtles who are herbivores, but it’s best to ask to people at the pet store before you buy 50 lbs of lettuce for a turtle that eats worms.

Turtles do not demand much attention. This makes them a worthy pet for busy individuals.

Technically, a glass vivarium refers to an enclosed area for keeping and raising animals or plants for observation, research or pet keeping. Often, a portion of the ecosystem for a particular species is simulated on a smaller scale, with controls for environmental conditions.

Vivaria are perfect for housing pets such as lizards, turtles, frogs, and other small sized reptiles or amphibians. A glass vivarium provides pet owners a wonderful view to observe their beloved pets. A vivarium must be well secured in a way that your pet has no chances of escaping and at the same time it’s totally free from predators and other hazardous objects. Large vivaria, particularly those holding organisms capable of flight, typically include some sort of a dual-door mechanism such as a sally port for entry and exit, so that the outer door can be closed to prevent escape before the inner door is opened.

Owning a pet comes with responsibilities and one of these is providing the perfect home for your pet.

When deciding to buy a tortoise for the first time it can be a very confusing and frustrating experience. You will probably find all sorts of different prices and all sorts of conflicting information on their care requirements. Finding cheap tortoises is the desire of every tortoise lover. However, aside from the price, the reputation and credibility of the tortoise supplier or pet shop must be considered.

Many pet shops supply little if any care sheets or care information regarding accurate tortoise husbandry, and the advice they do give is nearly always perilously incorrect. It is a proven fact that most species of tortoises do not do well in a glass vivarium or fish tank, as it is impossible to maintain the correct humidity levels and they cannot escape the heat. This type of set-up is particularly damaging for hatchlings and juveniles while in the early stages of development.

You should always take care to purchase your tortoise only from a trusted supplier.

Crested Geckos come from the New Caledonia area in the South Pacific. They are considered as semi-arboreal and nocturnal creatures. They spend their nights in the tress and shrubs and come down near the ground to find shelter during the day.

Crested geckos do well at room temperature in most cases. They are basically easy to care for which makes them an appealing pet.

Feeding problems with Crested Geckos often happen especially to new gecko owners.

It is therefore important for gecko owners to be aware of the optimal crested gecko food. You can feed your geckos with crickets, roaches, and other insects but only introduce a couple of insects at a time.

Also, the insects that you offer your geckos should not be larger than the distance from the gecko’s nose to its eye.

If your gecko does not eat for over 5 days, there could be a serious problem. There may be a potential illness. At 6-7 days without food, it is advisable to have your gecko checked by a veterinarian.

Crested Geckos are one of the best pet lizards available today. With proper feeding and pet care, geckos can live up to 15 years.
